Recently, between 2020 and 2023, the institute extended its work to Odisha and Assam. “The demonstration aimed to create awareness among farmers about the benefits of micro irrigation, such as water savings and improved crop yields. After conducting training sessions and meetings with farmers, around 30 farmers applied for government subsidies to adopt these systems,” said Smaranika Mahapatra, a researcher at IWMI who specialises in agricultural water management.
