Following the launch of the BMZ funded research project ‘Research and capacity building for inter-sectorial private sector involvement for soil rehabilitation (CB4SoilReha) in Sri Lanka‚ on June 21, 2016, IWMI supported two activities of relevant project stakeholders. On June 23, Johannes Paul and Felix Grau (PhD student under the BMZ project) presented at the Galle District Planters Association on topics of resource recovery, organic farming, organic fertilizer use and soil rehabilitation. This was followed by an inspiring discussion on benefits of organic fertilizer use and sustainable soil management among the attending 40 plantation managers and their delegations.
On June 28 -29, 2016, Felix Grau attended the 15th Agricultural Research Symposium at Wayamba University where annual research outcomes from the Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management of Wayamba University were presented; in total 110 papers of specific research projects. Wayamba University is one of the 4 research partners of the BMZ research project. Several of the presented research papers covered topics that demonstrated that Wayamba University, as a national research partner of the BMZ project, is well prepared to support the objectives and envisioned joint research activities.
